Get Your Home Ready for Winter
When you’re at home, you want to feel safe and secure. Make sure your home is ready for winter with these tips.
Avoid the Draught
Lots of cold air can come in around windows and doors. Use draught excluders in front of doors and seal around windows.
Pull the Curtains
Install heavy curtains and close them as soon as the sun goes down to keep out the cold. Open them during the day to let in the sunshine.
Review Home Insurance
A good home insurance policy will cover things like flooding, burst pipes and storm damage which are more likely in the winter. Contact your Genistar rep for help.
Manage the Temperature
As the temperature drops, there are ways to keep ourselves comfortable at home and still save energy.
Lower the Heat by 1*
Turning down your heat by just one degree could save you money and you probably won’t even feel the difference.
Heat the Bed, Not the Room
You don’t need to heat the entire room while you sleep. Try an electric blanket or a hot water bottle to warm up the bed.
Dress Warmly
Dress in layers and warm clothing to feel warm and comfortable in a cooler house.
Use Less Water and Energy
Did you know that heating water accounts for around 25% of all the energy used in our homes? So, using less water could lead to significant savings on your energy bills.
Take Short Showers
Showers use less water than baths, but be sure to keep them short. One tip is to set an alarm for four minutes. When it goes off, the shower is finished.
Heat What You Need
When filling the kettle, boil only the amount of water you will need. Don’t fill the entire kettle for one cup.
Fill It Up
Make sure dishwashers and washing machines are full before you run them. Don’t waste water and energy by running partial loads.
Turn It Off
Switch off electrical items when not in use. Even better, turn them off at the wall. If you don’t, they’ll still be using a small amount of power.
Change Your Bulbs
One of the easiest ways to cut your electricity bill is to switch to LED bulbs. You could cut your lighting bill by nearly 90%.
Let the Kids Help
The whole family needs to work together to save energy. Genistar’s Family Energy Challenge can help you get the kids involved.
Make More Money
The above tips can help keep your expenses low, but you might also want to make more money. Genistar offers a business opportunity that allows you to work part-time or full-time, earning income by helping others. No previous experience is necessary, as we provide a full and ongoing training programme. We are looking for honest, hard-working people to train and develop as leaders within our growing company. If you would like to help us make an impact across the UK, please contact us to find out more about what we do and how we do it. Contact your Genistar rep or send us an email here.
Get a Financial Plan
Genistar has an excellent tool called the Financial Plan which we compare to a Sat-Nav for your finances. While a normal Sat-Nov takes you physically where you want to go, Genistar's Financial Plan does exactly the same thing for your finances. It shows you the route to follow to help you achieve the financial goals you have for yourself and your family. In addition, we can often show you how to rearrange your finances to free up extra money. Contact your Genistar rep or send us an email here.
